Arsenal are reportedly interested in raiding Lyon for exciting midfielder Houssem Aouar this summer as the French youngster continues to shine on the biggest stage – and Patrick Vieira could hand the Gunners a huge helping hand.
The Daily Mail claim Arsenal are one of a number of interested clubs looking to sign 22-year-old Aouar this summer – with CalcioMercato claiming he is worth in the region of £52million. He has a contract at Lyon until 2023.
Still uncapped at senior France level, Aouar has been in stunning form for Lyon both domestically and in Europe this season. In five Champions League games, he scored against Juventus and laid on another three assists.
Only turning 22 on June 30, he already has 133 appearances in all competitions for Lyon – scoring 24 and creating 24. Little surprise then, that Arsenal and a number of other European heavyweights are looking to get a deal for Aouar done.
Lyon are seemingly resigned to losing Aouar and want to bring in a replacement. French outlet Le10Sport have claimed that Lyon are targeting Nice midfielder Wylan Cyprien – who could cost as much as £22.5million.
Cyprien, 25, has been a crucial part of Patrick Vieira’s Nice side – having a hand in 13 goals during his 24 league cup appearances this season. He has scored eight goals for the Ligue 1 side, and created another five strikes.
Lyon want Cyprien, as per the Le10Sport report, and signing the Nice midfielder from Vieira’s side – who have just signed Morgan Schneiderlin from Everton – may see Lyon cash in on Aouar, handing Arsenal a boost in their pursuit.
Vieira sanctioning Cyprien’s exit, then, could boost Arsenal’s chances of signing Aouar.
