Why Leeds United star Raphinha could help Manchester United sign Jadon Sancho - TBR View
Jadon Sancho has long been linked with a move to Manchester United – and this summer, those links are set to continue. The England international has endured a season of two halves, finishing strongly. United remain interested but of course, Dortmund will need to replace Sancho – and Leeds United’s Raphinha could have a say.
Sancho, 21, struggled during the first half of the season. Injury, fitness and perhaps having his head turned in the summer stunted his growth. But the London-born winger still ended the season with 36 goals involvements in 38 games – scoring 16 and creating 20. United remain on his tail.
Eurosport report – among many others – that Manchester United remain in pursuit of Sancho. His goals, assists and overall flair and excitement will solve United’s lack of a right winger for seasons to come. But who can Dortmund bring in as a replacement for the England ace?
That is where Leeds and Raphinha step in. The Brazilian, signed by Leeds from Rennes last summer, has enjoyed a brilliant first campaign in the Premier League. He has scored six goals, created nine more, and flung himself onto the radar of numerous top-six English clubs.
Leeds will be desperate to keep Raphinha
Eurosport suggest that Dortmund are considering Raphinha as a possible replacement for Sancho. Signed for a nominal £17million from France, Raphinha is likely to be worth the best part of quadruple that figure. Leeds will fight hard to keep hold of their new fan favourite.
Raphinha himself stated earlier in the season that he is happy at Leeds and does not see his future – at least immediately – anywhere else than Elland Road. Whether that continues into the summer remains to be seen, but he is certainly going to be a target for many, including Dortmund.
However, should Raphinha want to join Dortmund and the German club come in for him – that would surely help Man United. Dortmund signing a replacement for Sancho would allow them to sanction the Englishman’s exit, meaning Leeds and Raphinha can help bitter rivals United.
