Why Jordan Ayew’s first Crystal Palace goal came at the perfect time

In the closing moments of Crystal Palace’s clash against Wolves, Jordan Ayew exquisitely controlled a smashed service from Patrick van Aanholt, settled himself, and coolly slotted home the winning goal at Molineux.

The strike marked Ayew’s first goal for the Eagles, coming at the perfect time for the forward after Dominic Solanke’s mooted transfer was called off.

Ayew’s loan at Selhurst Park had been filled with frustration, missed chances, and an embarrassing lack of end product. Brought in from Swansea in an attempt to bolster Palace’s attack, Ayew had failed to revitalise the frontline and appeared destined for an unhappy time in SE25.

When the January transfer window opened, reports linked Liverpool striker Solanke with a loan move to Crystal Palace, which some speculated would end Ayew’s Palace career.

Yet in an unlikely turn of fortune, Solanke’s switch fell through due to injury concerns, and Ayew conjured up his best moment at the club with aplomb.

Now that Ayew has finally gotten off the mark for Crystal Palace, the Ghanian international may have presented Roy Hodgson with a striking solution after the failed Dominic Solanke move.

With his timely first goal for Palace, Jordan Ayew appears to have saved his Crystal Palace career at the perfect time.
