Leeds United’s automatic promotion hopes were dented last night as they lost 1-0 to Queens Park Rangers.
QPR had been on a seven-match losing streak but Leeds were unable to get the better of them at Loftus Road with Luke Freeman scoring the only goal.
And ahead of Friday night’s vital clash with West Bromwich Albion, Marcelo Bielsa needs to consider some changes to get the promotion bid back on track.
It is now time to promote Ryan Edmondson to the first-team squad and at least give him a bench role for the weekend.
With Kemar Roofe out injured and Tyler Roberts failing to impress, Bielsa needs to consider his other striker options.
Edmondson is a natural goal scorer and he has proven this in the academy.
Earlier in the week, the 17-year-old scored twice as Leeds downed Newcastle’s under-23 side with a 3-1 victory in the Premier League Cup.
This would have caught Bielsa’s eye and Edmondson has a chance of winning a first-team call-up because of the club’s policy of promoting youth.
The former York City striker has played one game under Bielsa – as a substitute in a league game against Birmingham City.
That was back in September and it is now the perfect time to reintroduce him to the senior set-up with Leeds in desperate need of a goal scorer.
Edmondson is not necessarily the answer but after a poor performance against QPR, he is worth a gamble.
