TBR Football can confirm that Evangelos Marinakis is giving serious consideration to swapping Nuno Espirito Santo with Ange Postecoglou at Nottingham Forest.
The Reds finished seventh in the Premier League and managed to sneak into the UEFA Europa League at the expense of Crystal Palace – having come within six points of relegation in the 2023/24 campaign.
Despite this rapid rise under the man born in Sao Tome, Marinakis is still not satisfied, and TBR Football can now share the exact reason why Nuno Espirito Santo could be dismissed in place of Ange Postecoglou at Nottingham Forest.
Exclusive: Evangelos Marinakis prefers Ange Postecoglou’s style of play
Graeme Bailey – Chief Correspondent for TBR Football – can now confirm that there are disagreements within the City Ground over the style of football that should be played.
Nuno – who has admirers in Saudi Arabia – typically adopts a defensive style in which the opposition often sees more of the ball. Even when Nottingham Forest hammered Brighton 7-0 last season, the Seagulls had 62% of the possession.
We understand Marinakis is keen to see a more attacking brand of football at the City Ground, a style which Postecoglou admirably stuck to at Tottenham last season despite widespread criticism, ultimately winning the UEFA Europa League.
The 58-year-old knows the Australian well, and is open to hiring him despite the popularity of Nuno amongst Nottingham Forest fans.
Marinakis even handed Postecoglou – who Pep Guardiola admires – an award for his services to Greek football back in July, and is believed to be a huge admirer of his daring style of football.
Sources add that Nuno and Marinakis have clashed over his tactics lately, with the former Tottenham boss unwilling to change his rigid approach.
The 51-year-old even admitted to reporters that all is not well ahead of the Premier League clash against Crystal Palace on Sunday, revealing: “No, it is not good (our relationship). I think everybody at the club should be together but this not the reality.”
Evangelos Marinakis and Nuno Espirito Santo have recruited together but issues remain
Bailey – our Chief Correspondent – states: “As it stands the club are delighted with how the summer has gone – look at the players that have come in. I am told both Marinakis and Nuno have worked together on these deals.
“However, all is not well. I am told Marinakis firmly believes Forest should be playing a more attacking game but Nuno is not going to change his style.
“Does this mean Marinakis replaces Nuno? I am told this is a possibility and that he does have a lot of time for Ange and how he plays the game.”
