Arsenal won out against PSV last night as they qualified from the group stages and gave themselves some breathing room before the World Cup.
The Gunners’ march to the top of the Premier League table as well as their Europa League campaign has put pressure on Mikel Arteta when it comes to his selections. Last night saw Arteta give a number of fringe players a start, with the likes of Eddie Nketiah, Sambi Lokonga, and Rob Holding among those to get the nod.
One of those players, Eddie Nketiah, will be looking to use European nights as a platform to prove his worth to Arteta and the club in general. Gabriel Jesus’ arrival has shunted him down the pecking order again.

But things didn’t go too well for Nketiah last night, and Football.London has pointed out a key moment during the game with PSV which left one Arsenal coach in particular unimpressed with Nketiah.
FL writes how coach Nicolas Jover was signalling to Nketiah to move away from his standing position and make a move in behind the defensive wall. From this, Xhaka’s free-kick was parried out which would have given Nketiah the chance at a tap in. As it panned out, the ball was cleared and Jover was apparently pictured heading back to the bench at a slow pace, clearly disappointed.
TBR’s View: The Small Details Matter
This is a minor, minor detail but is also a direct coaching instruction which Eddie Nketiah seems to have completely ignored. And with it, a chance of a goal has gone as well.
Nketiah is a good young player but this stinks of a player who thinks he knows best in a situation. That, or he simply didn’t heed the advice or hear it properly.
Jover’s reaction clearly tells a story here and Nketiah will no doubt be picked up on this back at London Colney.
