As we all try to process the fact that Leicester are being considered favourites for the Premier League title and that dismantled City as if they were facing Aston Villa, some of us Crystal Palace fans might be wondering, can that be us one day?
The Palace story would sure be just as miraculous and heart-warming: a team never meant for the Premier League, stumbling into it by luck, miraculously staying up, and winning the league a few seasons later all by staying true to its community and fans. But how do Palace’s squad now stack up against Leicester? Well…
Goalkeeper
Wayne Hennessey has had his ups and downs this season. Though he has been Palace’s number one for most of the season, for all the great moments and saves against Everton and Southampton for example, Hennessey has had some howlers such as at Villa and Manchester City.
The Welshman is capable of magnificent match-winning saves but still needs to build consistency. This is Hennessey’s first prolonged run of games in the Premier League since his Wolves’ days but he should be able to put his bad spell beside him.
His recent shakiness aside, he stacks up nicely against Kasper Schmeichel who is also a young goalkeeper still with promise. He has six clean sheets this season compared to the Leicester man’s eight.
At the same time Palace have strong back-up options with Julian Speroni, should he stay at the club, and Alex McCarthy.
