Everton winger Bernard must make the most of any chance against Southampton in the Carabao Cup.

The Brazilian is likely startto  Tuesday’s clash with the Saints at Goodison Park, following Marco Silva hinting as such via the club’s official website.

Bernard has been on the periphery since joining the club on a free transfer this summer.

The diminutive star, who arrived from Shakhtar Donetsk, is yet to start a game for the Toffees in the Premier League, but has made four cameo appearances from off the bench.

He has shown flashes of his ability, but must make the most of any opportunity afforded to him by Silva against Southampton, especially since Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s form has been relatively uninspiring.

Bernard could move Everton up a gear

Bernard has the ability to take Everton to the next level if given game time.

It is admirable that Silva has continued to give chances to Calvert-Lewin, however the youngster hasn’t been justifying his selection.

Bernard needs to use the Saints clash to give Silva another option to consider.

Should he perform well, he could make the left wing position his own, with Richarlison moving in-field.

Richarlison has proven he can play as a number nine, and the pair could strike up a great combination.

That would mean Cenk Tosun dropping to the bench, although the Turkey international did score at the weekend against Fulham.

There’s a chance Calvert-Lewin will also be given game time against Southampton, since he scored two in the third round. It’ll therefore be paramount for Bernard to stand out so he can rise above the Englishman in the pecking order.
