Lucas Torreira is enduring a difficult spell in his career. Loaned out by Arsenal to Atletico Madrid, the Uruguayan is in and out of Diego Simeone’s side and could return to North London – and his next club could affect Leeds.
Torreira, 24, left Arsenal for Atletico Madrid – while Thomas Partey went the other way. The £26million (BBC) signing has since managed just 12 outings for Atleti, remaining an unused sub in four of their last five league games.
Italian newspaper La Nazione claim Torreira could return to Arsenal after struggling to get regular game time at Atletico, and Serie A side Fiorentina may look to take advantage. La Viola have been linked for some time.
Indeed, it is believed Fiorentina have made their intentions clear and want to bring in Torreira – but are awaiting a decision from the ex-Torino man over whether he will leave Atletico and indeed pick Fiorentina.
That decision could affect a reported transfer pursuit from Leeds. The Whites are said have made contact with Fiorentina over their 26-year-old Chile international Erick Pulgar, with Marcelo Bielsa a fan.
La Nazione state that the proposal on the table from Leeds if the ‘most concrete’. Fiorentina are unlikely to want to cash in on Pulgar – one of their most-important players – without initially bringing in a replacement.
So, if Torreira picks Fiorentina, surely that may loosen Fiorentina’s desire to keep Pulgar and help Leeds complete a deal for the 24-time Chile international. Time will only tell.
