Riyad Mahrez – Leicester City
Goals: 16
Minutes per Goal: 154
Shooting Accuracy: 63%
Surely, whatever happens to Leicester City this season, Riyad Mahrez will walk away with the Player of the Year award. The Algerian has mesmerised the Premier League with his remarkable skill and ability, and has backed it up with a great number of goals and assists.
Nobody in the Premier League has been involved in more goals this campaign than Mahrez, who has either scored or assisted 27 of Leicester’s 54 goals in the Premier League; exactly half. 16 of those 27 goals have been scored by Mahrez himself, who has picked up the scoring mantle from Jamie Vardy in the last couple of months and placed himself in contention for the Golden Boot that would cap a remarkable campaign for him.
After looking as if his form had deserted him around New Year with two missed penalties, Mahrez’s goals have been crucial to Leicester’s title charge, and he has scored some vital winning goals in recent weeks, particularly on the road.
Mahrez has scored three goals since the turn of the year, which doesn’t indicate great goal-scoring form, but he has bagged the winning goal in Leicester’s last two away games against Watford and Crystal Palace. If he continues to score important goals on the road; and adds a couple at home, not only will Leicester surely claim the title, but Mahrez may get himself in contention for the Golden Boot. A remarkable season for Leicester’s magic man.
