The English Premier League is one of the most exciting leagues in the world, not least because it is where some of the planet’s deadliest strikers ply their trade. With half of the season behind us, the race for the division’s top goalscorer is heating up so we’re taking a look at the triumvirate most likely to win the coveted Golden Boot.

Diego Costa – Chelsea – +150 with Bovada

Chelsea’s Diego Costa is the man to catch in the goal scoring charts after 19 league games played. Costa already has 14 league goals to his, only three fewer than he scored in 44 appearances in all competitions last season.

Rumours, due to the Spaniard becoming disillusioned with the Premier League and its treatment of him, circulated that Costa would return to Spain at the end of last season. That is no longer the case.

Costa, under new manager Antonio Conte, is a different player and looks on course to beat his best-ever Chelsea goal tally of 20. He might even surpass the 27 goals he scored for Atletico Madrid in his final season before his Chelsea move. Costa, like his team, are unstoppable right now and he would be our bet as the eventual Golden Boot winner.

Sergio Aguero – Manchester City – +400 with Bovada

Sergio Aguero finished joint second in the goal scoring charts last season, notching 24 league goals for Manchester City, the same tally as Jamie Vardy and one less than Golden Boot winner Harry Kane.

Aguero has found the back of the net 11 times this season and has done so from only 14 games. Aguero has scored a goal every 98 minutes this campaign, the best ratio in the Premier League.

Aguero has scored 20 goals or more in four of the past six seasons and he’s easily on pace to do so once again in 2016/17. Manchester City have plenty of ground to make up on Chelsea so manager Pep Guardiola should employ a more attacking strategy in the second half of the season, making Aguero an even more appealing bet.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic – Manchester United – +350 with Bovada

Currently occupying second place on the goal scoring chart, Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the second favourite to win the Golden Boot.

Ibrahimovic has scored 13 goals in 19 matches so far this season and is on a tear of late. United’s talisman has bagged six goals in his last eight matches and looks threatening every time he touches the ball. He’s a quintessential professional who, no matter where he plays, gets the job done.

The fact Ibrahimovic is now 35-years-old works against him, but he is so physically fit that he shouldn’t burn out this season. Only an injury would keep him out of the United starting 11, as Ibrahimovic is a guaranteed starter for every United Premier League fixture. He scored four goals in his first five appearances and then failed to score in the six subsequent games. He may be streaky, but it looks like the big Swede has found his Premier League goal-scoring consistency.

Bet against Ibrahimovic at your own peril.
