With Liverpool still looking for their first league win of 2017, the arrival of Tottenham Hotspur would not have come at the best time for Jurgen Klopp. That said, a two minute brace from Sadio Mane gave the Reds an ideal start and within 20 minutes the game looked tied up for the home side.
Mane’s pace and drive was a real threat up against Ben Davies, who replaced Danny Rose at left-back, and Mauricio Pochettino’s men struggled to ever really live up to their billing as potential title challengers against Chelsea.
That means that the club remain unbeaten against other sides from the top half, with Burnley in 12th the highest ranked team to have beaten the Anfield club. However, it means that Liverpool remain one point off the top four and leaves Spurs nine points behind the league leaders.
