Chelsea were the Premier League’s eighth highest represented team at Euro 2016 this summer, with no less than six individuals representing their country at the highly anticipated tournament.
Eden Hazard excelled for Belgium as the competition progressed, showing the same form that he finished the season with at Chelsea. The 25-year-old scored an excellent goal against Hungary, while further contributing with four assists in his side’s journey to the quarters.
His compatriot, Thibaut Courtois, didn’t put a foot wrong in between the sticks for the Red Devils, as he kept four clean sheets in five appearances, and his performances will only have served to enhance his reputation as one of Europe’s most talented goalkeepers.
For Spain, Cesc Fabregas played in every fixture, but was ultimately unable to prevent defeat against Italy in the quarter-final stage of the competition. He averaged a 91% pass completion, while fashioning eight chances for his team-mates, including one assist.
Meanwhile, Pedro made two appearances for Vincent Del Bosque’s side, featuring for just 22 minutes, and Cesar Azpilicueta played just once, in a victory over Turkey. The former failed to manage a single shot in target or even register a key pass in the final third.
Finally, Gary Cahill will probably like to forget his time in France. Having started promisingly with a draw against Russia and victory over Wales, performances deteriorated, resulting in the Three Lions’ shock defeat to Iceland in the first knock-out round.
