Arsenal were the Premier League’s second-most represented team at Euro 2016 this summer, with no less than eight individuals representing their country at the highly anticipated tournament. With familiar faces playing for England, France, Switzerland, Wales, Germany and the Czech Republic, supporters of the Gunners were given a number of reasons to keep track of goings-on across the Atlantic.

Laurent Koscielny and Olivier Giroud both experienced outstanding tournaments for the hosts, France. However, they ultimately fell victims to Portugal in the final. The former impressed with his composed performances in the centre of defence, winning 2.9 aerial duels and 1.9 interceptions per game, while the latter excellent in the target man role upfront, weighing in with three goals and two assists in six appearances.

New recruit Granit Xhaka impressed for Switzerland, despite missing a penalty in the shoot-out that resulted in their elimination from the competition. The 23-year-old received praise for his composed performances in the centre of the park, through which he displayed his ability to read the game, both on and off the ball. He completed 89% of his passes in total, while weighing in with 12 tackles and nine interceptions.

Elsewhere, Jack Wilshere would have liked to received more game time with England. After being a surprise selection following a season marred with injury, he only played 113 minutes of tournament football, starting one game and coming on as a substitute in two others. He was unable to have the desired impact throughout his involvement, and ultimately he will be very disappointed.

Aaron Ramsey experienced an excellent campaign with Wales, with many suggesting it was his absence that ultimate resulted in their elimination to Portugal. His influence in the centre park for Chris Coleman’s side cannot be understated, as he proved throughout his involvement. In total, he made five appearances, recording four assists – from 15 key passes – and one goal, which came against Russia.

Meanwhile, Mesut Ozil’s form for Germany will have pleased the Emirates faithful. The 27-year-old featured in every game for his side and had an imposing influence throughout. Although his creative output in the final third – one goal and one assist – was not quiet what we have become used to, he was arguably the German’s best player in France.

Petr Cech and Tomas Rosicky will look back on their time in France with disappointment. The veteran duo could do little to boost the Czech Republic’s chances of success, and after picking up just a single point in the group stage of the competition, they found themselves eliminated. Cech made three appearances, while Rosicky made two – having succumbed to injury against Croatia. The latter has since left Arsenal.
