Who should Crystal Palace turn to for goals in January - Defoe or Solanke?
Roy Hodgson knows his Crystal Palace need to improve on the paltry 14 Premier League goals they have scored so far this season and a striker has to be at the top of his January shopping list.
Christian Benteke’s form last season means a new frontman is long overdue – especially as Alexander Sorloth has failed to rectify the situation since joining in the last winter window.
The Eagles have been linked with two frontmen in recent weeks who are at the opposite end of their careers, but both have an eye for goal.
Getting both men through the door would be a dream window for Palace, but if they can only get one, which one should it be?
Solanke must be absolutely bursting to show what he can do; he has a senior England cap to his name but a lack of gametime at Anfield has stalled his progress massively.
Meanwhile, Defoe’s sentimental return to Bournemouth has not worked out as planned and he would love nothing more than to remind everyone how good he can be, perhaps for one final time.
Defoe offers a greater guarantee of goals, but at 36, cannot necessarily be relied on every week. Solanke would love the regular gametime, but if Hodgson can only get one, he should reunite with Defoe.
