Who is Manchester City's latest signing Marlos Moreno?

With Pep Guardiola pressing on with a revolution of talent at Manchester City as he pushes spending nearer treble figures for the summer, the latest addition is young South American talent Marlos Moreno. Having signed for £4.75 million from Atletico Nacional, most fans were left wondering who this new talent is, at just 19 years of age and with little reputation outside of South America.

Moreno has signed a five year deal at the Etihad and will now be sent out on loan to Deportivo La Coruna in Spain, so it will be a while before City get to see their latest addition in action in the blue of their side, but there is certainly plenty for them to be excited about based on his performances in Colombia.

The Colombian forward has spent his career to date at his hometown club, Atletico Nacional, scoring six and assisting eight in 26 games since his debut in 2014. Alongside that, Moreno has seven caps and an international goal to his name despite his young age, and has won titles at club level, breaking the record for the fastest goal in the club’s history in the progress, and finished third with his country at this summer’s Copa America.

Moreno has developed a reputation as one of the most exciting young attackers in the world, with pace to burn and strong dribbling abilities which have caused problems for full backs across Colombia. The youngster can play anywhere across the front line but is most comfortable out wide, usually preferring the left wing. The only real criticism of Moreno from Atletico Nacional fans is a tendency to be selfish when it comes to shooting instead of playing in others, but this would surely be something that Pep Guardiola will stamp out of the forward.

For Guardiola, the immediate loan to Deportivo La Coruna will give him a chance to see more of his new signing before deciding where to deploy Moreno when he returns to Manchester in 2017. La Liga will provide him with a more physical challenge, something he will have to adapt to if he is to prove himself in the Premier League. It is also vital, as with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and Nolito all ahead of the Colombian in the pecking order, game time would have been hard to come by at the Etihad for the youngster.

On what we have seen so far, Moreno is an exciting talent, and at under £5 million, he could prove to be a major bargain for the club. By investing in the future, City are showing a desire to follow the Guardiola model previously seen at Barcelona and Bayern Munich of developing young players in the mould that he wants his side to play in. Moreno will have to adapt and grow if he is to prove to be a threat in the Premier League, but there is plenty for fans to be excited about with this new signing.
