As the Premier League comes towards the run-in, the Liverpool players that have impressed this season will have one eye on the player of the year award.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have impressed at times this season and there have been some particularly impressive performers that have allowed Liverpool to keep in touch with those at the top while they challenged for top four.

Picking the Merseyside outfit’s star man from the current campaign is a difficult task, but there are a few names that stand out…

Adam Lallana

Adam Lallana has been much of a revelation under Jurgen Klopp. The player who signed from Southampton for £25 million was a significant doubt for fans coming in to this season, very much running hot and cold – unplayable one week and non-existent the next.

Nonetheless, having slotted into a three-man midfield throughout the campaign, the Englishman has been superb. Hosting fantastic technique and dribbling ability, coupled with endless energy and a superb game intelligence, Lallana’s creativity from deep and incisive forward runs have helped Liverpool carve teams to shreds.

Seven goals and seven assists from midfield, in 27 league appearances, is something the 28-year-old can be proud of. He has also had an impact in defence as he is fantastic at pressing and able to get back and help do the dirty work.

Although having a slightly slower start to 2017, Lallana remains an integral part of Klopp’s side and one of the first names on the team sheet.

Jordan Henderson

Much like Lallana, fans and pundits wondered where Jordan Henderson would fit into Klopp’s Liverpool side. He struggled at the start of the season, with Klopp and the player himself unsure which role his talents best suited.

This was until he was deployed in what his manager calls the ‘six’; the player that sits in front of the back four. Henderson possesses superb energy and tenacity, attributes required for this position.

His passing range, awareness, game intelligence and his defensive ability have been fully visible in his new role. He has often been seen mopping up the ball and then distributing possession to his team mates.

His remarkable goal against Chelsea, which earned his side a win at Stamford Bridge in September, was a fantastic moment for him.

Picking the ball out of the sky with a great touch, the ex-Sunderland man had one look up and from a fair distance, before sending a powerful, curling effort into the top corner and away from a flailing Thibaut Courtois.

Sadio Mane

A £30 million signing made at the start of the season, Sadio Mane has really made an impact in this Liverpool side. The winger has looked excellent for the Reds, and his stats are impressive also. In 26 appearances he has registered five assists and 12 goals, making him the team’s top goal scorer.

The Senegalese man has looked far more than a traditional winger. Combining and switching with his fellow forwards, usually Roberto Firmino and Phillipe Coutinho, he has wreaked havoc on defences this season.

Possessing blistering pace, Sadio Mane is often the player to burst beyond opposition defences, yet he is just as comfortable coming short and providing the assist or cross for his team mates.

Liverpool have long been after an effective winger and they seem to have found their man in Sadio Mane. He has made a real case to be named player of the season in his first season with the Reds, and Klopp will be hoping he can kick on and drive his team to glory in the coming years.
