Derby County
Derby County are once again challenging for automatic promotion, having spent the majority of last season at the top end of the table and sitting top in March. A dip in performances and results saw Derby eventually finishing eighth in the table and not even making the play-offs. Steve McClaren was the Derby manager last season and there was a lot of media speculation over his future. He was heavily linked with the vacant manager’s position at Newcastle and would eventually take the job following his sacking by Derby.
Derby chose Paul Clement as the man to replace McClaren. Though Clement had no management experience, he came to Derby with a strong CV. Having worked as a coach at Chelsea, PSG and Real Madrid. Clement has worked closely with Carlo Ancelotti at all three clubs and no doubt anything he could have learnt from Ancelotti will only do him good. Derby struggled to find their best form at the beginning of the season, but despite their early struggles. Derby have only suffered three defeats in their 25 league games so far.
There will be many twists and turns in the fight for promotion to the Premier League but we believe that these four teams will be fighting it out for the two automatic places come the end of the season. Whilst the two remaining teams may end up looking for promotion via the play-off finals at Wembley. It wouldn’t surprise us to see three of the four teams mentioned playing Premier League football come the 2016/17 season.
