Three players Manchester United could sign to complete the perfect summer

Leonardo Bonucci

With Raphael Varane and Eric Bailly both young talents still to develop, Mourinho may look to add more experience to is defensive line. The Portuguese manager was keen to talk up Bailly’s talent but suggested he’s not the finished article. Bringing in Varane may not aid Bailly’s development, especially with Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Marcus Rojo and Daley Blind also all not classed as ‘well-experienced’.

Talk of Ricardo Carvalho rejoining his compatriot at a new club began at the start of Mourinho’s reign, yet has since faded, but Leonardo Bonucci’s name continues to be linked to Old Trafford, and also the club’s City rivals. The Italian is vastly experienced, having been to the Champions League final with Juventus two seasons ago and being a key part of their Scudetto-winning side.

It’s unlikely Juve would be keen to see two key players part ways with the club for United, but the Red Devils have money to tempt both the club into a sale and the player into a move. Yet, money doesn’t seem to be the issue for Bonucci with him rejecting higher wages offered to him by Manchester City, according to reports.

Mourinho would have to do a lot of convincing, but if the Italian joined, United would surely be favourites for the title, with world-class quality in all positions on the field.
