These lists are compilations of players that would both be a good fit under Guardiola and most importantly, realistic acquisitions for the club. Yes, I can sit here and suggest that Messi might come to the Etihad because of his relationship with Guardiola, but in reality that is highly unlikely to play out. The Argentine loves Barcelona more than any other club in the world, taking away their best player to elevate his new club simply wouldn’t make sense, nor would Messi leave his boyhood club. Other suggestions like the entire Bayern squad, Neymar, or players that would simply be an outrageous fee aren’t necessary. Clubs will be wary of City’s newfound power in Guardiola and the transfers will certainly drag on because others like to take advantage of the knowledge of the Citizens’ deep pockets. It’s about finding the right player with the right assets and mentality, not just buying Paul Pogba and expecting him to solve all our problems. There are other players I’m sure anyone would love to see at their club, Antoine Greizmann, Koké, Sergi Roberto, Mats Hummels, Héctor Bellerin etc., but they’re all seemingly rooted within their respective clubs. It is with this sense of realistic opinion that I compiled these players, not just a Pep Guardiola dream team.
