Sheyi Ojo
The young Englishman is still only 18 years of age, but it may feel like he has been on the radar for quite some time. Liverpool acquired him at a very young age and he has been a terrific young prospect that they wish to harbour within their ranks, convinced that he could turn out to be something special. From everything that we have seen of him so far, you would find that point of view quite hard to disagree with.
Like Kevin Stewart, Sheyi Ojo spent the first portion of the 2015/16 campaign away from Anfield, gaining experience of first-team football at Wolverhampton Wanderers. He enjoyed mixed fortunes in the Midlands, emerging from the substitutes’ bench many more times than he started. Nevertheless, he certainly still made a decent contribution to the team, popping in three goals and creating three more for his team-mates. With chances to shine becoming increasingly slim, Ojo was recalled to Anfield to work with the squad, and he has adapted surprisingly well.
The left-footed trickster has started an impressive five times in the Premier League since returning to Merseyside and has come off the bench on three more occasions. It has been Ojo’s assists in the league which have excited Liverpool fans the most, picking up three and seemingly possessing an inherent ability to find a team-mate in space.
Despite Jordon Ibe’s greater experience as part of the first team at Anfield, it was often Ojo who Jurgen Klopp turned to in the latter half of the league campaign when The Reds’ attentions were turned to the Europa League, and so we can expect the youngster to enjoy a fair amount of action next season too.
