Which of these five Premier League clubs would be the most suitable destination for Celtic’s Moussa Dembele?

Liverpool

Similarly to Arsenal, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool lack a depth of recognised centre-forward players. Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge are the only forwards Klopp has really been able to use given Danny Ings’ injury woes, with Sadio Mané, Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho and youngster Ben Woodburn all potential options out wide in the German manager’s preferred 4-3-3 formation.

In several matches, Klopp has opted against including an out-and-out centre-forward in his starting line-up, with Origi and Sturridge occupying the bench, providing the latter is fit, and Roberto Firmino occupying the central role in a false-nine front three.

Origi offers an option for the Reds when they need to go more direct. Although Dembele may not be of tremendous height, as a central striker his individual style of play may make him the perfect mould for Jurgen Klopp’s radical, passing into feet style of play. The wide men in the front three tend to cut inside and cause trouble for defences rather than fire balls into the box at will from the wings, but Liverpool are a side that often tend to mix things up and whether they opt for the direct approach or playing the ball around the opposition box, Dembele is a presence who any manager would want to pick up the pieces in the mixer, and has a substantially stronger goal-scoring record of late than Origi and the injury-prone Sturridge.

Dembele has operated well alone up front for Celtic, but with the extra support of such technically brilliant, creative wide players like Mané, Firmino, Coutinho, and sometimes Adam Lallana in the front three, he is unlikely to be starved of goal-scoring opportunities, and can serve as a focal point to provide chances for the wide men supporting him to score goals also, something players such as Mané would relish.

Furthermore, with uncertainty over the futures of Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge at Anfield beyond this season, should Klopp persist with his favoured formation, Roberto Firmino may well be pushed back out wide, which would pave the way for a forward with Dembele’s record to feature as the central striker in the front three with Origi in reserve. That, of course, would depend on what transpires during the summer, but first-team opportunities may well be there for the Frenchman, and Klopp is certainly unafraid to include younger players in and around the first-team.
