Arsenal were strongly linked with a move for Victor Osimhen during the summer transfer window.
In case you missed it, the Gunners first tried to sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig before the Slovenia international opted to stay in Germany.
After that deal was taken off the table, Arsenal held talks with Osimhen about a move to the Emirates Stadium, but a deal failed to materialise.
The Nigeria international then surprisingly joined Galatasaray on loan for the 2024/25 campaign – as his bridges with Napoli were burned – although there is believed to be a break clause in that agreement, should another club try to sign him in January.
Now, Charles Watts has shared whether or not Arsenal will be among those to make a move for Victor Osimhen in January…
Arsenal not expected to attempt Victor Osimhen deal
The respected journalist has now revealed that Arsenal are unlikely to bid for the Nigerian in the winter transfer window.
Watts told Caught Offside: “I just don’t really see it happening in terms of Arsenal. As I’ve said before, I’ve never really been told about any Arsenal interest in Osimhen since the summer of 2022, when they ended up moving for Gabriel Jesus instead, so I would be surprised if they go for him in January.
“I think, if and when they do go for another striker, it might be a slightly different profile to the Nigeria international. Anyway, right now they are very happy with what Kai Havertz is offering them as the central striker.”

Osimhen scored 17 goals in 32 appearances for Napoli last season, and played a key role in Galatasaray securing a 5-0 win over Rizespor on his official debut.
Wait and see
While these comments from Watts are perfectly understandable at this moment, there is still plenty of time for Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar to change course.

For example, should Havertz embark on a goal drought between now and January, and the likes of Gabriel Jesus or Raheem Sterling fail to step up, it is entirely possible that Arsenal turn to Osimhen in January in an attempt to salvage the 2024/25 campaign.
Hopefully, that does not turn out to be the case, and Arsenal will have enough firepower to do something special this season without turning to the transfer market.
