Champions Leicester City host Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United on Sunday and both teams will be desperately hoping to claim three points. Leicester have failed in their attempt to retain their historic title and began the game week just two points above the relegation zone. United, on the other hand, have gone fourteen Premier League games unbeaten and lie in 6th place, pushing for Champions League contention.
With both teams needing maximum points for highly different reasons, this game could be decided by whoever wins the battle between Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Wes Morgan. Both players have been integral to their clubs this season, with Morgan having played 100% of Premier League matches and Ibrahimovic missing only one game.
Having joined United in the summer, a lot of doubt surrounded Ibrahimovic as people questioned whether he’d be able to handle the rigours of the Premier League. Nonetheless, the Swedish giant has been a revelation for United and the question of ‘Is he good enough?’ has been left in the past.
With 14 goals and three assists to his name, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been the focal point of United’s attack, their next top scorer is the record signing Paul Pogba who has just four league strikes to his name. Ibrahimovic has found the back of the net in 59% of Premier League games and Leicester have a job on their hands if they are to keep him quiet.
Yet, no one will be more adept to the task than Wes Morgan. The Jamaican stands 10cm smaller than his Swedish opponent but is known for his physical nature. The league-winning captain is certain to match Ibrahimovic for physicality and will be looking to unsettle him throughout the game.
Morgan has been tidy individually this season, having only made two defensive errors and 122 clearances in 23 games, but Leicester’s defence, as a whole, has been a shadow of its title-winning self. The Foxes have only kept five clean sheets in the League and have struggled for form throughout the campaign.
With United coming into the game having not been beaten in fourteen Premier League appearances, the Red Devils, with Ibrahimovic leading the line, are clear favourites. However, if the Foxes can find their title-winning spirit, led by a stellar performance from their captain, Wes Morgan, this tie is sure to be a close-run encounter.
