Alexis Sanchez is currently on international duty with Chile at the Confederations Cup with his club future far from certain. The winger has one year remaining on his Arsenal contract and is said to be dealing with the speculation well, according to his Chile boss Juan Antonio Pizzi, as reported by the Independent.
In the same report, Sanchez has been linked to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, while Chelsea are also said to be interested in, according to the same outlet. But, which club will the highly coveted winger be playing for come the end of the summer transfer window?
Chelsea
After winning the title last season, the Blues are looking to add to their squad with the extra Champions League fixtures next campaign. With Eden Hazard already fulfilling the left-wing role in Antonio Conte’s side, it seems odd for them to go for another world-class wide man, but getting Sanchez would sure be a statement.
The Independent suggests Conte feels the Chilean would greatly enhance his side while Sanchez is reported to have a love for London, which suits a cross-city transfer to Stamford Bridge.
Conte wants a player that can play across the front three and Sanchez fits the bill. The Arsenal man’s energy and work rate also fall perfectly into the Italian manager’s approach.
Manchester City
Another manager with a philosophy that suits Sanchez perfectly is Pep Guardiola. His ideology, that is currently being implemented at Manchester City, sees his wingers often take wide positions until the ball makes it to the final third, where they are then allowed the creative freedom to roam, find space and score.
At City, Leroy Sane has taken Guardiola’s philosophy under his wing but Raheem Sterling, despite starting brightly under his new coach, tailed off midway through the season.
Sane is able to switch over to the right which makes Sanchez’s arrival even more necessary as he would fill the void on the left. And the transfer seems possible too – the Daily Star recently reported that Arsenal could swap Sanchez with Sergio Aguero in a move that suits both parties, with the Gunners after a striker.
Arsenal
While there is external interest, Sanchez could stay at his current club this summer. As reported by the Daily Mail, both him and Mesut Ozil have been offered 20% pay-rises if the Gunners finish in the top four next season.
With the pair both having only one season left on their contract, it is crucial that Arsenal negotiate their contracts successfully to ensure they do not lose their star men on a free.
It is clear to see the effect Sanchez had on the Gunners last season, scoring crucial goals in the league and the FA Cup, and, while he may want over £300,000 a week, the Chilean has such an effect on his side that he could be worth every penny.
