Quique Sanchez Flores – Unattached

Most followers of the Premier League would agree that the Watford board opting to dismiss Quique Sanchez Flores at the end of the season is both absurd and extremely surprising.

The Hornets were promoted from the Championship last season and currently sit 13th in the Premier League with a game to go, whilst they also reached an FA Cup semi-final.

The soon-to-be ex-Watford boss led the club to a fantastic first half of the season, which saw Flores’ win December manager of the month.

The second half of the season has been poor in comparison with two wins in their last 11, but any newly promoted side would’ve taken safety from relegation and a trip to Wembley.

What could appeal to Everton was Flores’ ability to integrate 20 new signings into his Watford team, which he did with great confidence last summer.

If Goodison Park is expecting a storm of ins and outs, then Flores has shown his ability to construct a good team with new signings and he would have a young, strong core of John Stones, Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku to work with (providing they stay).

Some of Watford’s defensive displays in the second half of the season could be a cause for concern amongst Everton fans but there’s no doubt Flores will be on the raider of several clubs in England and abroad.

Flores won the 2010 Europa League with Atletico Madrid success and for next season, qualification for this competition should be a realistic target for any incoming Everton manager.
