TBR Football can exclusively confirm when Sunderland expect to complete the signing of Getafe defender Omar Alderete as the new Premier League season approaches.
Sunderland have been one of the most active teams in the Premier League transfer market as they look to close the significant gap between the top flight and the Championship.
With all eyes now on the Black Cats’ first game of the season against West Ham, bringing in a new centre back is now Regis Le Bris’ top priority, after signing former Hammers defender Arthur Masuaku on a free transfer.
Following links to Loic Bade, TBR Football can reveal that Sunderland now have an agreement in place to sign Omar Alderete and when they hope to finalise the deal to bring him to the North East.

Exclusive: Sunderland have an agreement in principle to sign Omar Alderete
Sources have informed TBR Football’s Chief Correspondent, Graeme Bailey, that Sunderland are hoping to complete the signing of Paraguay international Alderete before their first game of the season.
Whilst Sevilla’s Bade was a player of interest to Le Bris’ side, he looks set to link up with Erik Ten Hag at Bayer Leverkusen.
Getafe have agreed to Sunderland’s broad offer of 10 million euros (£8.6 million) and the player has agreed to personal terms. The final payment structure and add-ons are now being finalised.
Bailey said: “Whilst not finalised, it does seem that Alderete is Sunderland’s first choice. Although sources confirm that they have and are in contact with other defensive options, which I believe is just to make sure they have this other central defensive option on Wearside before the opening game.
“They are well on their way to getting this over the line.”

Lloyd Kelly could join as Sunderland’s next signing
Whilst the final details of Alderete’s move to Sunderland still need to be agreed, he looks odds-on to be pulling on a red and white jersey in the Premier League next season.
TBR Football also understands that the club have enquired about the availability of Juventus defender Lloyd Kelly, who recently moved to Italy from arch-rivals Newcastle United.
Sunderland have taken an aggressive approach in the transfer market as they look to steer clear of trouble in the 2025/26 Premier League season.
Sunderland’s 2025/26 summer signings:
- Goalkeeper: Robin Roefs
- Defence: Arthur Masuaku, Reinildo Mandava
- Midfield: Habib Diarra, Simon Adingra, Enzo Le Fee, Chemsdine Talbi, Noah Sadiki, Granit Xhaka
- Forwards: Marc Guiu
Le Bris has strengthened across his squad, with Chelsea prospect Marc Guiu joining on loan prior to Sunderland’s latest flurry of activity.
If Sunderland can add Kelly and Alderete to the 10 new recruits they have already brought in, Le Bris will have a strong squad to work with in their fight for survival.
