'When I talk to people': 'World class' player says he's been told Tottenham came really close to selling him
Kane undertook a series of loan spells early in his career before establishing himself at Spurs, where he has of course gone from strength to strength.
In an interview with Sky Sports, he said that he has since been told that Tottenham came close to selling him during that period where it was not clear whether he would make the grade at Premier League level.
Jamie Carragher described Kane as one of England’s two or three ‘world class‘ players ahead of the World Cup, and he is so important to Gareth Southgate in Qatar.
Tottenham almost sold Kane
Kane said: “I was maybe a little naive but when I went out on loan, when I talk to people now it was like ‘maybe we were close to selling you, or you were going on loan to maybe got bought by one of these clubs.
“But in my head when I was going on loan it was always I was going on loan to play for Tottenham.
“It was maybe a bit of naivety and thinking like that allowed me to not overthink things.
“I was always thinking I was going back to Tottenham next year and I can really push for that.”
Kane of course flirted with the idea of joining Manchester City during Nuno Espirito Santo’s only transfer window in charge of Spurs.
He did not go, and now they have signed Erling Haaland, that avenue looks closed and Spurs have improved drastically since that point.
Now, his full focus is on winning the World Cup for England, which would be the first major trophy of his hugely impressive career.
