Donyell Malen set for Aston Villa medical in 48 hours

TBR Football’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey can exclusively reveal that Aston Villa have struck an agreement worth £22 million to sign Donyell Malen, with £2 million in further add-ons.

Currently, Malen, who Alan Shearer praised is not currently in England.

However, TBR Football understands that the 25-year-old is due for his medical at Aston Villa in the next 48 hours.

TBR Football revealed Aston Villa let Jaden Philogene sign for Ipswich Town just a few months after returning to Villa Park.

The Englishman’s sale has made room for Malen, who Aston Villa considered their top target to come into the squad as the plan was always to strengthen the attacking options at Unai Emery’s disposal.

Aston Villa increased their offer to sign Malen, which goes to show much Emery’s side wishes to secure his services.

The Wieringen-born wide forward has been touted by a former Dutch icon as well.

Aston Villa-bound Donyell Malen tipped to become “the best player in the world”

Rafael van der Vaart lauded Malen in March last year but questioned whether his countryman believes in his own quality.

“I think he’s so good. I’ve said it before. It seems like he doesn’t believe [in his own talent].”

“The question I actually want to ask him is; Do you want to become the best player in the world?”

The former Tottenham wideman went on to claim that in his eyes, Malen has the potential to become the best player in the world.

“Because he really has everything to do that. I am 100 percent convinced.”

Last season, Malen showcased why he is considered such a brilliant player.

Scoring 15 goals and providing five assists in 28 starts across all competitions, the former PSV Eindhoven trickster was excellent for Borussia Dortmund.

Malen has only five goals and one assists in total this campaign but he has started 10 games for Dortmund; numbers he would be determined to improve in an Aston Villa strip.
