Newcastle United are reported to have reached an agreement with Southampton to sign England goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.
The Magpies have been in pursuit of a new goalkeeper to challenge first-choice stopper Nick Pope.
Although they agreed a fee for Burnley’s James Trafford last week, Manchester City had a matching clause which they triggered to re-sign their former academy graduate.
Sky Sports journalists Dharmesh Sheth and Keith Downie have now reported on Newcastle’s breakthrough for Aaron Ramsdale as they shared when he is expected to undergo his medical.

Aaron Ramsdale set for Wednesday medical at Newcastle
Sheth and Downie reported on Sky Sports that the deal for Ramsdale is a season-long loan with an option to buy next summer.
The 27-year-old has been given permission to travel for a medical which, according to the Sky Sports journalists, is set to take place on Wednesday.
Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein, who also reported on the deal, added that Newcastle are set to pay a loan fee described as “heavy” and “sizeable”.
It is understood that Ramsdale had a £25million release clause written into his Southampton contract in case of relegation.

What Aaron Ramsdale will bring to Newcastle
Ramsdale may have been unable to help Southampton stay up last season, but it’s clear that he is a superb goalkeeper meant for the higher levels of the Premier League.
When he joined Arsenal, it wasn’t long before he dethroned Bernd Leno and made the No. 1 spot his own at the Emirates Stadium thanks to his superb shot-stopping.
“Rammers is my boy and I back him to the death,” Real Madrid and England defender Trent Alexander-Arnold previously said of Ramsdale. “Incredible goalkeeper and incredible guy.”
Along with being a superb shot-stopper, Ramsdale is a popular figure in every dressing room he’s been at, which goes a long way towards maintaining good camaraderie.
Ramsdale will also be reunited with Howe, who handed the goalkeeper his senior debut at the Vitality Stadium and who previously called him “exceptional”.
