‘What’s pleased me’: Ex-Tottenham captain names key reason behind Nuno’s ‘great’ PL start
Former Tottenham captain Ledley King has highlighted three clean sheets-in-a-row as the reason why Spurs have started brightly under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, the ex-north London skipper believes that the defence has been central to Tottenham’s strong start in the Premier League since the arrival of the Portuguese manager.
Spurs remain the only club in the Premier League to have a 100% record after three games as well as no goals conceded. Tottenham have also beaten reigning Premier League champions Manchester City.
Indeed, the mood around Spurs is a positive one, with the club at the top of the Premier League standings during the first international break of the season. And for King, Nuno’s defensive set-up has been key to Tottenham starting the season well.
The former England international said: “It’s been a great start so far. Obviously, three wins is great, and what’s pleased me is three clean sheets as well.
“We’ve really started really well, and obviously the aim is to get consistency. We play Crystal Palace next which will be a difficult game, but so far it’s been a very good start.”
Palace will be a tough test for Spurs. But with the defence in fine form and Harry Kane now fully integrated back into the squad, there is a strong chance that Tottenham will make it four Premier League wins out of four.
The next few games will be key to where Tottenham go this season, and if they can keep the defence as solid as King believes it has been, Spurs could go far in the Premier League this campaign.
