What would Hull City’s Andrew Robertson bring to Liverpool’s side?

Liverpool have been one of the most active clubs in the current transfer window, having already signed Chelsea youngster Dominic Solanke and Roma’s Mohammed Salah, and Hull City’s Andrew Robertson is another player who could find himself at Anfield this summer, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The left-back is believed to be a target of the Reds as a potential replacement to Alberto Moreno and James Milner. Liverpool are said to be holding out for £15 million for the Spaniard, who has already been the subject of an £11 million bid from Napoli.

Meanwhile, Klopp sees vice-captain Milner as a suitable left-back, having performed admirably their last season, but the German wants Robertson to provide competition for the role.

So, what would the Hull man bring to Anfield?

Left-back has been a problem area for Liverpool for a long time, ever since the departure of Jon Arne Riise in 2008. At 23 years of age, Robertson could be the man to solve that problem.

The Scotsman has had a turbulent career so far, despite his young age, but spells in Scotland and England has seen the Hull City man develop into a very competent left-back, comfortable in an offensive and a defensive sense, which is crucial for the modern-day full-back.

He was a good performer for the Tigers last season. Starting 31 games in the league, he was a solid feature, and these performances will likely earn him a move away from the relegated club.

Perhaps not an outstanding or thrilling signing, Robertson maybe represents a change in tact from manager Jurgen Klopp, and the club itself, when approaching defensive signings. At a reported £8 million, Liverpool could get a good player and an exciting prospect for a very small fee, especially in an increasingly inflated market.

Robertson fits the manager’s philosophy, while also being competent in all aspects of his game, despite being relatively cheap. Instead of breaking the bank for a signing that may struggle, like Dejan Lovren did initially, the Anfield club are targeting youth and value for money defensively this summer.

The £8million-rated full-back improves Liverpool’s back four whilst also enhancing squad depth – something that will be very important, should the Merseyside club hope to compete on all fronts next season. Overall, Hull’s Andrew Robertson would be a very shrewd signing for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
