Arsenal are among a host of clubs showing an interest in Reading striker Danny Loader this summer, according to Goal.
They report that the Gunners have the English starlet in their sights, but face competition from Juventus, Chelsea, Wolves, Southampton, Leicester City, Lille and Rennes.
This season has been something of a breakthrough for Loader, with Reading’s struggles in the Championship giving him a chance to impress – and it seems he has certainly caught the eye.
He is now in the final year of his Royals contract, and the club’s financial situation apparently makes it likely they’ll sell this summer if they can’t tie the youngster down to a new deal within the next few weeks.
Arsenal of course have two outstanding strikers in Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but with Danny Welbeck leaving the club this summer, they need backup.
Youngster Eddie Nketiah looks to be the next cab off the rank. He got significant gametime last season and Gunners legend Freddie Ljungberg told the Islington Gazette back in February that the starlet is ‘ready to play’.
But if Loader comes in, and the two first choice strikers continue to dominate the frontline, it could provide a setback for Nketiah, seeing him pushed down the pecking order.
It would then be up to him to come back stronger or perhaps go out on loan to get the gametime he needs in order to go to the next stage.
