What Wilson Odobert has just done in Tottenham training proves he could be Ange Postecoglou’s missing link

Tottenham Hotspur’s squad is shaping up nicely, with Wilson Odobert the latest name through the door at Hotspur Way.

Tottenham announced the signing of Wilson Odobert for what is believed to be around £32 million from Championship side Burnley last week.

He clearly caught the eye of Ange Postecoglou after his opening day Championship display for the Clarets against Luton Town, where he grabbed a goal in an emphatic 4-1 win.

And, if the recent training footage of Odobert is anything to go by, then Tottenham fans have every reason to be excited moving forward.

Wilson Odobert lights up Tottenham training as the club release footage

Tottenham’s official Twitter account released a video of Odobert getting a taste of training at Hotspur Way.

The footage displays the Frenchman’s pure pace, creativity and power, with an assist and goal on show, as well as rinsing fellow summer signing Archie Gray.

Odobert offers Spurs something completely different

We’re only one game into the Premier League season and Timo Werner has already been slammed by Craig Burley of ESPN. The German was the player Ange decided to turn to on the left-hand side after being brought on as a substitute, and it clearly didn’t go to plan.

Unlike Werner, Odobert is an out-and-out winger who has many strings to his bow, despite still being a teenager, offering the versatility to operate on both wings.

The likes of Son Heung-min, Brennan Johnson, Timo Werner and Dejan Kulusevski all have pace, but Spurs’ new signing takes things to new extremes, as Odobert was clocked at 36.14 km/h last season, which makes him even faster than Vinicius Junior.

Kulusevski was Spurs’ main man for take-on success and carries into the box last season with 1.76 and 2.67 respectively per 90 minutes, but even he was trumped by Odobert. The winger had a higher successful take-on percentage per 90 minutes, attempted more take-ons and made more carries.
