Liverpool fought back from 1-0 down at home against Norwich City today and ensured they kept the pressure firmly on Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.
A shock goal from Milot Rashica had caught the Reds out. However, Jurgen Klopp’s side fought back from the brink with a change in formation and a couple of changes helping them out. Goals from Sadio Mane, Mo Salah, and then a well-taken first goal for Luis Diaz eventually put the game to bed.
For Liverpool, it was a test of their resolve really. It’s not often they find themselves 1-0 down, especially against a team near the bottom of the league. Key to them coming back into the game was a togetherness and resoluteness that is often personified by their star defender, Virgil van Dijk.

And watching on for the BBC, former England defender Jonathan Woodgate noted what Van Dijk did when Liverpool conceded.
“Virgil van Dijk, he is trying to get the team together, because at the moment they don’t look together. When Norwich break, they don’t half break at pace. It’s difficult for Liverpool to control them at times,” Woodgate commented on BBC’s live feed.
Woodgate had picked up on the fact that Van Dijk was visibly trying to get his team going. He was gesturing to a number of teammates at the time, with hand signals and instructions aplenty. And in the end, it looks like the Dutchman’s insistence on upping the performance paid off.
TBR’s View: Van Dijk Colossal Again For Liverpool
What a defender he is. Even when Norwich got their goal, he was cool, calm, but in a way, aggressive towards his teammates in order to invoke a reaction.
The Dutchman oozes class and once Sadio Mane had got the leveller, Van Dijk pretty much shut up shop at the back.
