What Unai Emery would ‘shy away’ from doing at Arsenal, it’s all changed at Aston Villa

Unai Emery is having the time of his life at Aston Villa right now and has got his team very much in the race for the top four and beyond.

A big win over Manchester City in midweek saw Villa cement themselves as a leading contender this season.

A lot of the success has been accredited to the work of Unai Emery. The 52-year-old Spaniard has had quite the impact at Villa Park and is rightly being praised. However, it’s not always been rosy for the former Villarreal manager.

Emery had a bit of a disastrous time when in charge of Arsenal. And according to The Telegraph, Emery’s inability or unwillingness to deviate from being nothing but the head coach seemed to have an impact.

The Telegraph’s article on Emery today outlines why Emery might have failed at board level at Arsenal, commenting the following:

“Emery did not exactly help himself at Arsenal, though. He arrived as head coach and was focused entirely on that role. There was never any sense that he wanted to widen his remit, or indeed claim any additional power. If anything, he would shy away from it: publicly and privately, he would often defer any non-coaching issues to those above him. He would not, it is safe to say, have regularly talked directly to the club’s owners,” The Telegraph writes.

Unai Emery clearly has a way of working

Emery’s time at Arsenal hasn’t dented his career really it just seems that the stars didn’t quite align.

The Spanish coach is quite clearly one of the top coaches in the business and has proven it time and again through his work with Villarreal and now with Villa.

Clearly, Emery is a man who is best left to his own devices and very much concentrated on what happens on the training pitch.

Villa seem to have allowed that to happen with the addition of Monchi as well and Emery is now thriving while the club itself is seeing the fruits of that labour.

Aston Villa are in the title race at the moment and a lot of the thanks can go to Emery.
