What Tottenham staff have now noted about Roberto De Zerbi’s temper after becoming Spurs manager

Roberto De Zerbi has been the Tottenham manager for a few weeks now, and it’s fair to say he’s had time to settle in and get his feet under the table.

It’s been a tumultuous time for Roberto De Zerbi at Spurs. Results have improved, but Tottenham still go into the final day with the very real risk of relegation hanging over them.

Many believed hiring De Zerbi was a risky move from Spurs. After all, he’d left both Brighton and Marseille on bad terms having fallen out with those above him.

De Zerbi has developed a reputation for having a fiery attitude and a bad temper at times, but according to Dan Kilpatrick, speaking on The Lab podcast, staff at Spurs have noted that hasn’t been much of a thing since his arrival in north London.

Roberto De Zerbi’s temper isn’t an issue at Tottenham

Kilpatrick and the podcast’s host spoke about De Zerbi’s demeanour since joining Spurs.

The host noted that the Italian hasn’t been all that explosive at Tottenham, while Kilpatrick added that staff inside the club have made similar observations.

“I don’t know what evidence De Zerbi has of creating culture, but I was surprised at how calm he’s been coming into the club and how he’s been, what do you think stereotypically of De Zerbi when you think about him and his explosiveness, it’s running down the touch lines, it’s arguing, it’s being tempestuous, and the reality is he’s come into Spurs and I think he’s realised they don’t need this yet. It will come, but he’s coming in calmness ship. I’ve been surprised by that,” The host said.

“Yeah, yeah, me too. And I have heard kind of anecdotally that there are sort of people at the club who have said this reputation he’s got for being a firebrand, it’s not being borne out,” Kilpatrick added.

Of course, it’s still early days from De Zerbi, and given he took over in such a difficult situation, it’s probably best that he takes a more measured controlled approach.

However, heading into next season, it wouldn’t be a shock if we saw the De Zerbi of old as he imprints more of his own style and personality on this Tottenham team.

The De Zerbi journey is only just starting at Tottenham, that’s for sure.
