Tottenham Hotspur striker Troy Parrott endured a difficult night for Ireland against Portugal on Tuesday evening.

The 22-year-old will be hoping for an opportunity to impress Ange Postecoglou this summer after a brilliant loan spell at Excelsior in the Netherlands.

Troy Parrott netted 17 times in 32 appearances for the Dutch outfit and is receiving interest from top sides in the Eredivisie

The Tottenham academy product continued his excellent run in front of goal on the international stage with a last-minute winner against Hungary last week.

His display off the bench earned him a start against Portugal on Tuesday evening but Ireland were easily beaten 3-0 on the night, with Parrott hooked after 53 minutes.

Parrott labelled ‘near-anonymous’ after latest Ireland display

Balls.ie handed Parrott a four out of 10 and claimed the Spurs striker really struggled before being taken off just after half time.

The outlet wrote: “Near-anonymous in the first half. Could have been in had Szmodics spotted him charging down the right in the 32nd minute. Taken off just after the break.”

The Irish Mirror delivered the same verdict on Parrott in terms of his match rating, while also adding he failed to make an impact upfront.

“Ireland’s match winner against Hungary last week was rewarded with a start but he made no impact whatsoever and was subbed,” they wrote.

Parrot received a five out of 10 from The Irish Independent, with the outlet noting that he was simply ‘outfoxed’ by his marker while struggling with the pace of the game.

The Irish Sun were slightly more sympathetic towards Parrott’s efforts, claiming the striker found it difficult to get on the ball against a dominant Portugal side.

“Rewarded for his fine club form and last-minute winner against Hungary with a start but very hard for him to impact the game when he could not get on the ball,” the outlet wrote.
