Liverpool midfielder Wataru Endo has been criticised for his performance against Toulouse in the Europa League last night.

Liverpool’s Wataru Endo gets 4/10 rating vs Toulouse

Liverpool suffered their first defeat of the season in the Europa League against Toulouse last night.

Jurgen Klopp‘s side didn’t look great at all.

Aron Donnum opened the scoring for Toulouse in the first half before Thijs Dallinga doubled their lead 13 minutes after the break. A fortunate own goal gave Liverpool a route back into the game, but Frank Magri made it three for the home side soon after.

Diogo Jota scored late in the game, as did Jarell Quansah, but the latter’s goal was disallowed for handball by Alexis Mac Allister in the build-up.

That was a ridiculous decision, but Liverpool didn’t play well at all to say they deserved any points, and Wataru Endo, who was replaced at half-time, had a really poor game.

GFFN gave him a 4/10 rating and wrote: “The Japanese international was lucky to be on the pitch at the end of the first half following a challenge which probably should have resulted in a second yellow.

“He looked sluggish and was subbed at half-time.”

Endo is just a squad player

Liverpool signed Wataru Endo from Stuttgart in a deal worth just over £16 million in the summer (Sky Sports).

The Japanese midfielder was never going to be the first-choice at Liverpool. He was only brought in as a backup and that’s the reason why all but one of his seven starts this season have come outside the Premier League.

Liverpool fans can’t blame Endo for his performance last night – none of his teammates was much better than him either in that first half.

The Reds take on Brentford next in the Premier League in what will be a tricky game. It will be interesting to see if they will be able to bounce back.
