What Steven Gerrard said about Harry Kane's penalties before this season started is now very interesting
Kane led the line for England yet again this week in the Nations League. The Spurs man was presented with another chance from the penalty spot against Germany on Monday night.
As usual, the 29-year-old made no mistake from the spot as he lifted the ball over Marc-Andre ter Stegen and into the top corner.
And on Monday’s evidence, it seems that Gerrard was spot on in his assessment of Kane’s penalty-taking technique.
What Gerrard said about Kane’s penalties
Speaking on the Overlap back in April, Gerrard was about to be asked by Gary Neville who he would want to take a last minute penalty.
The former Liverpool man interrupted Neville while he was asking the question as already knew his answer – Harry Kane.
Neville said: “Last minute penalty…”
“I think I can answer it before you finish it,” Gerrard responded.
“Harry Kane. Just like wow. The technique, the pace, the speed and the accuracy.
“I think he’s putting them exactly where he wants to. I think he’s mastered that and fair play to him.”
Kane proved Gerrard right once again on Monday night after his brilliant penalty for Gareth Southgate’s men. Ter Stegen even guessed which way Kane was shooting, but was helpless as the ball hit the back of the net.
The England captain rarely misses from the spot and is arguably one of the best penalty takers in the world.
He did miss one for Spurs this season as his international teammate Dean Henderson denied him. But that was mainly down to a piece of excellent goalkeeping from the Nottingham Forest shot stopper.
Kane has taken 63 penalties in his career and has hit the back of the net 54 times from the spot.
Gerrard is right that Kane has ‘mastered’ his penalty-taking technique and he proved it once again on Monday night.
