What Renato Veiga has now decided as Borussia Dortmund look to agree deal with Chelsea

Chelsea could be about to secure another exit for January with Borussia Dortmund pushing to sign one of their first-team players.

Enzo Maresca has made no secret of his desire to allow players to move on from the club if they wish to do so and he’s already spoken of Ben Chilwell being allowed to leave.

However, while Chilwell has yet to agree a move elsewhere, another Blues defender, Renato Veiga, appears to have said yes to Borussia Dortmund.

It comes after Wolves were keen on signing Veiga, who only arrived at Stamford Bridge for £12m in the summer of 2024.

Renato Veiga agrees to leave Chelsea for Dortmund

While Veiga has only been at the club just over six months and has been a part of the squad under Enzo Maresca, it’s now being claimed he’s agreed a move to Dortmund.

Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has taken to X to state that the Portuguese star has now reached a ‘verbal agreement’ with the Bundesliga outfit.

Veiga has actually impressed at Chelsea at times in recent months and his exit will come as a bit of a surprise to some at the club.

However, given the fluidity of the situation at Chelsea, it’s also not too much of a shock to see a player like Veiga being moved on.

Whether or not Chelsea will agree to the deal, remains to be seen. While there’s also the issue of them finding a replacement.

Renato Veiga minutes played show he needs a move

Despite being a young player with time to develop and being a regular in the squad, Renato Veiga clearly feels he needs to be playing more.

The defender has played less than 180 minutes all season in the Premier League, completing 90 minutes in just one single game.

Furthermore, Veiga has not featured once in the last five league games, even being left out of the squad entirely when the Blues travelled to Fulham.

For Veiga, it feels like a move is needed and he’ll look at Dortmund’s history as a positive sign for his career development.
