West Ham continued their fine form by knocking Manchester City out of the Carabao Cup – and Pep Guardiola praised the Hammers, and David Moyes.
West Ham had Alphonse Areola to thank on numerous occasions during the last 16 tie, making some incredible saves to keep Manchester City at bay.
He denied Cole Palmer with his feet – before producing an incredible save to stop a John Stones header. He also tipped a Oleksandr Zinchenko drive.
The Hammers kept Manchester City at an arm’s length at the London Stadium. City have won the competition for the past four years.
But West Ham’s penalty-shootout win sees City knocked out of the tournament for the first time in four years. An incredible win for Moyes.
Speaking after the match, Guardiola was full of praise for West Ham and Moyes – as Phil Foden’s penalty was wide of the mark.
“One of the toughest games we played at home last season was against them. They are doing well in the Premier League,” Guardiola said.
“And in the Europa League and now in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals. Fantastic team and fantastic manager. Congratulations to West Ham.”

Can West Ham and Moyes win trophy, following Guardiola praise?
Without a doubt. Of the clubs remaining in the competition, you would have to say the Hammers are certainly one of the more in-form outfits.
Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham, Leicester and Arsenal are all still in the competition – along with League One Sunderland and Brentford.
West Ham beat Tottenham on the weekend, and £58k-a-week (Express) Moyes will surely fancy his side against Leicester or Arsenal.
However, the favourites will surely remain in the form of Liverpool or Chelsea – both who seem unstoppable this season.
