Martin Zubimendi is at the centre of a serious transfer storm at the moment as Liverpool look to sign the Spaniard.

Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move for Zubimendi in recent days, but, as things stand, that deal is up in the air somewhat.

Indeed, Real Sociedad are trying their best to keep the player, and according to Dean Jones, the view within football is that Zubimendi will go elsewhere in any case.

Speaking on the Ranks FC Ultras Podcast, Jones has shared what people within football think will happen with Zubimendi, and he says that the view is that the midfielder will ultimately end up at Real Madrid next summer under Xabi Alonso.

What’s expected to happen with Martin Zubimendi

Jones shared what he’s heard about the Spaniard.

“There has been a big belief within football circles that Xabi Alonso goes to Real Madrid next year and he takes Zubimendi with him, that has been the feeling.”

Double blow for Liverpool

This would be a disaster for Liverpool in more ways than one.

Not only would they be losing out on Zubimendi, they’d also be losing out on Xabi Alonso.

Of course, Arne Slot is the incumbent Liverpool manager, and the Reds won’t be looking to make a change anytime soon.

However, Alonso is someone the higher-ups at Anfield really like, and if he goes to Real Madrid, he immediately becomes unattainable for the Reds.

Zubimendi and Alonso could’ve been an incredible pairing at Liverpool, but, by the sounds of things, these two could be on their way to the Santiago Bernabeu instead of Anfield.

Liverpool could still beat Madrid to the signing of Zubimendi, but if Alonso is indeed Madrid-bound next summer, the Spaniard may well want to hold out for a move to Los Blancos.

Real Madrid continue to be a serious thorn in Liverpool’s side.
