What people close to Harry Kane are saying about his future at Tottenham

The Telegraph reports that people close to Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane are saying only Champions League qualification or winning a trophy could tempt him into staying at the club beyond this season.

Kane’s future at Tottenham seems to be up in the air at this moment in time with the north Londoners failing to kick-on from promising end to last season.

The 29-year-old looked set to extend his stay with Spurs earlier in the season after a promising start to the campaign under Antonio Conte.

But with doubts also surrounding the Italian’s long-term future at the club, it remains unclear whether Kane will be open to negotiating a new deal with Spurs.

The England captain’s contract has just over 18-months left to run and The Evening Standard reported back in October that he had put discussions with the club on hold until after the World Cup.

Now, rumours over Kane signing a new contract have seemingly gone quiet and his future could depend on what Tottenham manage to achieve this season.

The Telegraph reports that people around Kane believe that it will take Tottenham winning a trophy or qualifying for the Champions League this season to tempt him into staying.

Of course, Spurs remain in two competitions after qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League and booking their place in the fourth-round of the FA Cup.

But their current form will certainly be a cause for concern for Kane and it seems highly unlikely that Conte’s side will be able to lift a trophy if they continue to play the way they are at the moment.

Spurs seem to have regressed this season after qualifying for the Champions League in stunning fashion last time out. It’s no wonder that Kane is seemingly weighing up his options with the situation at Tottenham looking bleaker by the day.

Conte is yet to commit his long-term future to the club, with his deal set to run until the end of the season. There’s an air of uncertainty surrounding two of the most important people at Spurs and Daniel Levy will need to address the situation sooner rather than later.

If Conte does put pen to paper and Spurs somehow manage to get their season back on track, there will be a much higher chance of the club hanging on to their talisman.
