What Oxlade-Chamberlain was spotted apparently saying as Klopp took him off for Liverpool at Forest
Liverpool snuck past Nottingham Forest to make it into the FA Cup semi-final in a pulsating encounter at the City Ground this evening.
A late goal from Diogo Jota proved enough for the Reds to see off Forest, who battled hard and had more than enough chances to get back into the game themselves. Cafu snatched at a chance late on while Zinckernagel also missed a golden opportunity just before Jota got the winner for Liverpool.
Alas, for Forest anyway, it was not to be and Jurgen Klopp’s side can look forward to another Wembley date. However, it wasn’t easy for Liverpool today and Klopp was forced to make big changes in the second period.
One of those changes saw Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain taken off as part of a four-man sub. The former Arsenal man didn’t exactly seize his chance in the first XI, and he was visibly annoyed when he was given the hook. He appeared to mutter some words towards Klopp and the Liverpool bench, which were along the lines of him not having played much.
TBR’s View: Oxlade-Chamberlain Cannot Grumble
This performance was the story of the Ox’s career really. He never got going and failed to take a big chance given to him in a massive game in the cup.
While he has all the talent in the world, injuries and inconsistencies have ensured Oxlade-Chamberlain has never quite hit his potential.
This was another frustrating day for the Liverpool man and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he was back on the bench going forward.
