Many Nottingham Forest fans were left broken-hearted when Brennan Johnson left the City Ground for Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.

The 22-year-old, who swapped the Reds for Spurs in a £47.5million deal, made a name for himself as one of the top talents in the English leagues after coming through the ranks at Forest.

On Friday night, Johnson renewed acquaintances with his former colleagues as his Tottenham side took on Forest at the City Ground.

During the match, the Wales international’s return to NG2 was met with a mixed reaction. As per The Mirror, there were some boos whenever he got the ball.

However, Johnson’s time on the City Ground pitch sadly had to be cut short due to a clash of heads that left him needing to be substituted.

A coming together with Willy Boly inside the Tottenham 18-yard box saw Johnson go down holding his forehead as blood began to appear from his face.

The Spurs man had to come off, and the Forest fans gave him a warm round of applause as he walked around the pitch before heading down the tunnel.

The Reds faithful also chanted: “Brennan Johnson, he’s one of our own.”

It’s a shame that Johnson had to come off, but it was nice to hear the Forest fans pay tribute to him on the night.

This shows that, even though he has left the City Ground and is now playing for a Premier League rival, they remain fond of him on Trentside.

Tottenham triumph at Nottingham Forest

Tottenham ended up triumphing on the night, with a goal in each half proving the difference against Forest.

Ange Postecoglou’s charges took the lead in first-half injury time, when Dejan Kulusevski whipped in a great cross for the resurgent Richarlison to head home.

Forest thought they had equalised when Anthony Elanga tapped in, but VAR disallowed the goal after spotting he was ahead of the Spurs defence.

Tottenham then doubled their lead in the 65th minute as Kulusevski went from provider to goalscorer, slamming home with an effort that went through Matt Turner’s hands.

Forest then ended up with a man advantage when Yves Bissouma was sent off for a lunge on Ryan Yates, but Spurs held on for all three points and a clean sheet.
