‘What nonsense’: BBC pundit stands up for Leeds star after what he did on Sunday

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has been praised by BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks, who named the Whites ace in his latest Premier League Team of the Week.

Crooks also thought it was “nonsense” that “a lot was made” of his unselfish pass to Jack Harrison for Leeds’ third goal at Leicester, saying it was the right thing to do.

Bamford put in a man-of-the-match display in the 3-1 win over the Foxes on Sunday afternoon, scoring one goal and laying on assists for Harrison and Stuart Dallas.

For the third goal, the 27-year-old broke clear on the counter-attack but opted to square the ball to Harrison to tap into an empty net, rather than going for goal himself.

“It’s only the second time Patrick Bamford has made my team of the week this season,” Crooks wrote on BBC Sport. “The last time was his amazing hat-trick against Aston Villa.

“Well his performances since then have not been scintillating but he was pretty impressive away at Leicester.

“His goal and two assists against the Foxes sealed a fabulous few days for Leeds, having beaten Newcastle earlier in the week.

“A lot was made of Bamford’s unselfishness in front of goal for Jack Harrison to seal the points against Leicester. What nonsense – it was the right, and only, thing to do.”

TBR View:

Bamford put in a superb display against Leicester, and his decision to square for Harrison was absolutely the right one – “side before self every time”.

He could’ve gone for glory but there was always the chance he could’ve missed and the Foxes went on to equalise – hence it’s great he went for the pass instead.
