Ousmane Diomande has been at the centre of plenty of transfer speculation as of late, with Newcastle one of the teams reportedly interested.
The Sporting defender has been making waves over in Portugal, and the Magpies are said to be keen to sign him up.
However, according to Dean Jones, speaking on the Chasing Green Arrows YouTube channel, this deal isn’t going ahead as things stand.
Jones says that he checked on this Diomande rumour just a few days ago and a pretty good source from Newcastle has told him that this one isn’t getting off the ground as things have to be pushed back to the summer due to FFP constraints.

Diomande not happening
Jones shared what he knows about the defender.
“One thing I want to clear up here, he says Newcastle are signing Diomande, no they’re not mate, he’s like a £70m defender. I checked this the other day. Unless my contact at Newcastle is a complete dud, which I don’t think he is, he’s been pretty good in the past, he says this can’t get off the ground at the moment because everything like that has to be pushed back to the summer,” Jones said.
Frustrating
This is very frustrating to hear if you’re a Newcastle fan.
When the Magpies became the richest club in the world two years ago, many envisaged Newcastle spending crazy money on big-name players in every single transfer window.
However, as we all know, FFP can affect even the richest of clubs, and while Newcastle have been able to spend, they don’t have an unlimited budget to just do whatever they want.
Diomande will have to wait until the summer, and we’re sure he’s not the only transfer target that Newcastle are having to put on ice right now.
Whether or not Newcastle can ultimately make any signings this month remains to be seen.
