What Newcastle have in store for Miguel Almiron in last hours of transfer window

Newcastle United have had a very difficult summer on the transfer front and they are now involved in a deadline-day scramble for reinforcements.

The Magpies are looking to bolster their attacking ranks, but they have reportedly fallen short in their efforts to sign Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga.

More outgoings could potentially be on the cards for Newcastle too. For instance, Miguel Almiron’s Magpies future remains in the balance.

Now, The Times has reported what the St James’ Park outfit has in store for the Paraguay international as the transfer deadline edges ever closer.

Newcastle trying to sell Miguel Almiron

Martin Hardy of The Times recapped the state of play around Newcastle’s deadline day activity, namely their pursuit of Elanga.

He then insisted that the Magpies are still keen on finding a buyer for Almiron before the window shuts.

‘Eddie Howe said he wanted a centre half or a right winger in this window but that he didn’t think he would be able to sign both,’ wrote Hardy.

‘Now that the Guehi deal looks dead, it has allowed scope for a dramatic switch in focus.

‘Newcastle enquired about Elanga in June when they were sorting out PSR problems, but the price for the former Manchester United player was too high.

‘They ended up selling Elliot Anderson to Forest and bringing in the Greek goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos.’

Then came the bit about Almiron, with Hardy saying: ‘Newcastle will try to sell Miguel Almiron in what will be a frantic end to the window.’

Newcastle not slowing down in latter stages of deadline day

With just a few hours remaining until the deadline, Newcastle still seem intent on levelling up and bringing in an upgrade on Almiron.

The £100,000-a-week ace (Salarysport) was being linked with a move to Saudi Arabia and the MLS earlier in the summer, but nothing came of the speculation.

It’s certainly a case of ‘watch this space’ for Newcastle fans over the coming hours.
