Tottenham Hotspur welcomed Mauricio Pochettino back at N17 on Monday night as Spurs hosted Chelsea in the Premier League.
Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham and Pochettino’s Blues played out arguably one of the most dramatic English top-flight encounters in recent history.
It was a bittersweet occasion for the Spurs faithful. Pochettino was a superb manager for Tottenham and seeing him lead Chelsea to victory led to plenty of mixed feelings.
Although the Spurs team has changed a lot since the Argentine’s days at N17, Son Heung-min is still around and he clearly still has a lot of affection for his former manager.
At the end of the match, Son and Pochettino could be seen sharing a hug and some words, testament to how close they still seem to be.

Matt Law of The Telegraph wrote on X: “Big hug for Son from Pochettino. Didn’t look like Son wanted to let go.”
He also said: “Poch gets nice reception from Tottenham fans by the tunnel. Nice touch from them.”
Pochettino not missed as much by Tottenham as they finally get managerial decision right – TBR View
Admittedly, it would’ve been even more bittersweet for Spurs supporters had the club not finally managed to bring in a coach that looks like he’ll be able to live up to Pochettino’s heroics.
Postecoglou has quickly turned things around at Tottenham in the space of a few months. Tactics, signings, personality, player management – the Spurs boss has barely put a foot wrong.
Even after the loss to Chelsea, Tottenham remain second in the standings, just one point behind Manchester City after 11 games.
As well as being a dramatic match, what really caught the eye (and ears) at the end of the game was how Spurs fans cheered their team, despite losing 4-1.
Tottenham’s heads didn’t drop during the game, except perhaps deep into injury time. And Postecoglou didn’t look to shut up shop at 2-1 and ‘accept’ a narrow loss.
Spurs went for it, keeping a high defensive line, and very nearly got back into the game on a couple of occasions.
And despite the defeat – which came in wake of going town to nine men and losing other two players to injury mid-game – there will be no dwelling. Postecoglou will rally his troops as best he can.
